ORGANIK BLU SISTAR OF THE MONTH

IFALADE
1. How did you find out about Organik B.L.U?
I was googling Black lesbians and found your organization. From time to time I like to see what's out there for our community. I was pleasantly surprised when I read the description of the group and checked out the discussion topics on the forums. There was weight and depth when it came to the dialogue this group was partaking in and that drew me in immediately. Honestly, your profile was among the first I read. I was in total LOVE right away! My kindred sistah(s). It felt like the right group for me to join.
2. How long have you been a member of Organik B.L.U?
Since 2008. On a spiritual level, I've been a member sincer birth.
3. What was your purpose of joining Organik B.L.U?
To connect with a worldwide community of same gender loving women of color and conscious.
4. How long have you been creating?
I began creating when I was a soul in Orun (Heaven) and was called to create through a human form in the womb of my mother, Florence (god rest her soul). I finally brougt my creation to earth on September 23, 1961. Nearly 48 Moons ago.
5. I see you are a woman of many talents, which one is your first love?
Writing fiction, poetry and journalistic writing is the LOVE that moves me in creative spirit. I was told by an African chief that I am and was a scribe in another life. I believe this is my life destiny--to record the events of the world, my community and my families through the portal of the sacred word.
I am also a channel for moving pictures or as we call it, filmmaking. I have personally written, directed and co-produced two short films and have worked on several other films. I am currently VP of Creative Programming for Your World TV, a full scale on-line TV network that features original and independent films, documentaries, music videos and TV shows from around the world.
6. What is an Orisa Priestess?
A priestess of the Orisa tradition is one who has undergone the rites, rituals and training of the Ifa tradition to the degree to carry the title of "priestess." There are many branches of my faith--similar to how Christianity has Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans etc. Some Orisa priests are a part of the Lukumi, Santeria, Candomble or other religious branches of my tradition. However, Ifa is the parent for all of these faiths.
Ifa is a 6000 year old spiritual tradition that comes from Yoruba people of Nigeria, West Africa. It is said that 75% of the enslaved Africans who were taken from Africa during the Maafa (slavery) came from the Western region of Africa (due to closeness to the shores the ships sailed from). Thus, many Africans living in the UK or in America are descendents of some part of West Africa or the Caribbean.
This is why I chose this faith. Partly because it reasonated in my soul when I began to study its history and practices. But also because of this faith's ability to completely restore Black people to a state of wholeness. But like every other faith it has its good and its challenges....
Its important to note that I am a priestess of Yemoja (Yemaya). Shango is my father. I am also an Iyanifa (Mother of the Ifa Mysteries). I was given the title of Iyanifa by the late Honorable Baba Medahochi in September of 2006. My teacher/elders are the Oloye Baba Ifa Karade, the Honorable Ancestral King-Baba Medahochi (Ibae), Oba Ifasola Odunade and Iyanifa Ifalola Aboyade. Mojuba, Ibase. I give homage....
Its also important to note that I founded the first Ifa temple in Denver, Colorado which welcomes diversity on every level. I have initiated nearly 30 priests who study and practice with me both in Denver and across the United States. About half of them are SGL sistahs. As a result of my journalistic and TV work, I have become the public representative for SGL Orisa practitioners around the world. This is not a glamorous title. But I have come to understand that is one given to me by spirit for my own growth and evolution. I am a gatekeeper for all things spirit....
I give thanks to Spirit for being the birth canal for this work....
7. How long have you been an Orisa Priestess?
Since 2001. Probably longer in spiritual time.
8. What are the names of the books that you have written?
I have written three books. The Sacred Door: A Spiritual Guide for Power Living (Non-Fiction) and two novels---The Seer: Legacy of Stone and Spirit AND The Bones Do Talk and forthcoming, The Layover.
My first book, The Sacred Door, was a portal for my life destiny. In 2003, it attracted producers from the SciFi Channel TV Network who invited me to audition for a groundbreaking reality TV series which I was ultimately selected for.
I went on to co-star in this long running reality TV show, "Mad, Mad House," which was picked up by SciFi UK who aired it across the world. The show was based in the appreciation of cultural diversity. I went in an international press tour to share the blessings of my faith with a global community. I became the first Yoruba priestess to appear on a primetime TV show.
Spirit truly has a sense of humor.....
9. What inspires you to write?
Life lessons, pain, joy, Spirit, Ancestors, Orisa, people I love and people that irritate me. I am also inspired by Maya Angelou, Sonia Sanchez, Amiri Baraka, Taalam Acey, Peter J. Harris, Michael Datcher, Eric Jerome Dickey, Terri McMillian (spelling?) and others.
I love the essays of Dr. John Henri Clarke, Bell Hooks, Cornell West, Audre Lorde, Barbara Smith and Sapphire.
Books that changed my life are Handbook of Yoruba Concepts-Baba Ifa Karade, The Historical Origin of Christianity-Walter Williams (Black folks are afraid to read that one), The Isis Papers-Dr. Francis Cress Welsing, Race Matters-Cornell West, Destruction of African Civilization-Chancellor Williams, anything by Haki Madhubuti and Black Labor, White Wealth-Claude Anderson.
If you are Black or a person of color and consciousness reading this interview and you want some hard cold truth about our existence, our history and our spirituality, read the above books and be set free. I stand by these books as a requirement for Black evolution and rebirth.
Note, there is some homophobia in some of these, but don't toss the bathwater out with the baby. Get the organik food from these texts and regurgitate the rest. Ase.
10.Who is your favorite author and why?
In terms of fiction--I love Eric Jerome Dickey. He is my all time favorite author because of his amazing ase (natural gift) with the spoken and written word. The way EJD plays with words is orgasmic. I love his character descriptors and scene development. He is simply a phenomenal writer, master storytelling and fiction!
11.What type of films do you produce?
Documentaries, short films, features, multi-media performance art and investigative journalistic pieces.
12.Name two films that you have produced.
Train Station and Rashida X.
13.How would you describe Ifalade?
Deeply creative, intensely spiritual, erotic and passionate, fiery and ambitious or as one of my sistah friends always says, "I don't let any grass grow under my feet," i.e. I'm always moving and grooving. I live a very fast paced life. I do NOT believe in limitations. If I set my mind to do something, I usually do it.
I set ridiculously high goals and sometimes meet them. I like living boldly but walk across the grass of life with great sensitivity because you never know what or who is living in the green areas of life. I have deep respect for my Elders--those who have paved the way for me--those sistahs/brothahs who took the frontlines and made revolution/evolution happen.
I love love and I love being in love. I am a Virgo/Libra ruled by Venus/Mercury. I live for communication, justice, balance and did I say love?
I love deep, rocking, intense orgasms either self-given or given by my partner. I believe sexuality is a spiritual, civil and human right. I believe women are the mothers and fathers of the world and must be honored as such. I believe men are the fathers and mothers of the world and must be treated as such.
I will end patriarchy and racism in this life. I use art and the spoken/written word to combat oppression on all levels. I am a mother, grandmother and wife. I am a sister, auntie and cousin. I am a friend to the world...especially to animals.
14.Where do you see yourself in two years?
Married to and sharing love with the love(s) of my life (my partner, writing, my dog, organic food, the ocean). playing golf in fabulous locations. eating organik everything.....swimming in warm clear waters. writing book after book. writing screenplays and poetry. producing film and tv. helping keep the planet green. exercising my body everyday in some divine form. kissing my dog on the forehead. laughing at life. traveling the world doing healing work.
15.An affirmation that you live by?
Not an affirmation but a quote i wrote, "lies in the past hurt more than truth in the present."
I also live by the scriptural teachings of the Odu Ifa, one of Africa's original holy books. In the scripture Iwori Ose, it speaks to adversity being used as a means to lift me up and ultimately bless me. Whenever I go through struggle, I know that blessings are on the other side. Ase.
16.What is your greatess accomplishment?
I used to say giving birth to my daughter. But I think being there for the birth of all three of my grandchildren. Praying for them. Lifting them up to the ancestors in the old way during the first moments of their lives.....kissing them on their foreheads too many times to count.
But today and always, my greatest accomplishments will always be the people who have been touched or transformed by my work. It is LOVE, love shared and love experienced that moves the world and that moves me. That is all we take with us when we leave here.
17.What last words of encouragement would you like to leave for our members and visitors?
Be your divine self. Speak in the presence of fear. Speak your truth to you and others from a place of conscious awareness and deep sensitivity. See spirit not people. Hug and kiss yourself today. Forgive someone totally today. Love deeply despite past hurts. Kiss a dog today. Kiss a cat today. Pour water on the earth somewhere today. Know that God orchestrated the love you feel for whomever, whenever and however. If it is love you feel, you are expressing God....ase.

WHO IS MS B.L.U? NOW IS YOUR CHANCE TO FIND OUT - INTERVIEW WITH TREAZURE MAG

1. What does Organik BLU stand for?
Organik means to grow naturally and B.L.U stands for Black Lesbians Unite
2. When did Organik BLU Start? Where?
Organik B.L.U was birthed on the 17th May 2008 in London UK. Organik B.L.U is a major part of my coming out process. For a long time I had one foot out of the closet and one foot in. Hiding, then representing. I was suppressing the person I truly was for too long and decided I had enough of living according to what people thought I should be.
So, on the 17th of May 2008, I woke up and decided enough is enough. I made the decision to come out to the world. It was time, I felt it deep within me! That very morning the idea sprang into my head to create a social network for Black Lesbian women like myself.
(I thank the ancestors for the idea) I basically created what I myself had needed at that moment, which was support, love & good company!
3. Tell us about the need to have a black lesbian network in the UK?
A Black Lesbian network was definitely needed, not only in the UK, but world wide. Without a shadow of a doubt. The reason being, is we all need strong support networks, we all need guidance. There seems to be a lack of U-N-I-ty amongst us for one reason or another. There was a definite need for someone to create a strong spiritual platform for all the SiStars to come together as one to share ideas and to help each other to grow. At the end of the day we are all in need, including myself. I yearned to make a change.
We need to grow, we need to accept, we need to stop judging and hating on each other, we need to be ourselves, we need to LOVE again. Women are strong beings, we are powerfull beyond belief, intuitive, passionate, expressive, creative, loving, nurturing, naturally spiritual and absolutely BEAUTIFULL! All of this should be shared, so we may continue to rise together and make massive changes not only in our lives but in the lives of each other. After all, isn't that what life is about? CHANGE!!!
Once i recognized the beauty within myself, I started to see beauty in others. I saw beauty everywhere I went. (smile) I wanted to share and help others to see their own inner beauty.
4. What and who do you feature on Organik BLU?
We feature and promote Black Lesbians who are members of Organik B.L.U, whether they are in business or individuals who have something they want to share with a wider targeted audience. We are currently receiving between 300 - 622 visitors a day on Organik B.L.U website!
I think great achievements should be recognized and supported! The media reports so much bad news about members of our community, either seeing us from a very narrowed point of view or associating lesbians and bisexual as only sex symbols. Our LGBT community needs positive & strong role models who are focused on sharing good news and helping to elevate those who are creative, beautifull, artistic, motivated, successfull & talented! Just like what Treazure Mag is doing (smile)
Everything is so much more meaningfull once it is being shared! Sounds like LOVE to me!
5. How big is your network?
Currently we have 1425 members & growing steadily daily.
6. Who are some of your big supporters?
My main supporter(s) is my WIFE and our members, without them there would be no Organik B.L.U (smile)
We are also supported by:
Kairos Soho (UK)
OUTBURST UK (UK)
The Afro European Sisters Network (NL)
UK Black Pride (UK)
B.A.M.E (UK)
BLESSENCE MAGAZINE (UK)
7. What is your vision for the the Black Lesbian Community not only in the UK but across the globe?
Oh wooooooow, this thought excites me! (smile). Where do I start?
My main vision is to assist GROWTH within our community.
The ingredients to assist this growth is:
Love
Acceptance
Spirituality
Positivity
Non Judgement
Empowerment
Creativity
Expression
I am currently facilitating monthly workshops which supports UK members of Organik B.L.U. These workshops offer each member the opportunity to learn more about themselves and the LGBT community. Part of the my vision is to expand this to various parts of the world where other Organik B.L.U members reside. I was invited to speak at the First Black Woman's conference in the Netherlands, Amsterdam in July 2008, which was organised by one of our Organik B.L.U Members (Sandra Rafaela, founder of AESN). I have been invited back in November 2008 to facilitate a workshop called The Power of a Woman. This particular workshop will kick off first in London UK on October 12th 2008. Maybe I will extend myself to the USA very soon, hopefully very soon. I am open to all invitations (smile)
8. What does the future have in store for Organik BLU?
Well since the seeds that were originally planted at birth were all good seeds, then I only hope to reap goodness in the future for Organik B.L.U. I strongly believe that Organik B.L.U is already serving her purpose. Members of Organik B.L.U have openly expressed how much they appreciate our network and how much it is needed. Members of Organik B.L.U have built very concrete friendships together. I trust the U-N-I-Verse regarding the future of Organik B.L.U. (smile) In the meantime we continue to enjoy the moment!
9. Tell us about yourself. Who is the Lady behind BLU
(smile) I am a beautiful black woman who loves to love women. Love doesn't mean I want to have sex with you. It means I appreciate who you are and want to share my energy with you. Love means I respect your mind and soul. Love means I am willing to accept who you want to be with out judgement.
I am cr8tive and spiritual.
I love being who I am without the conditioning of society.
I love to laugh and I love dancing.
I love to find solutions to the challenges in LYFE.
I am a Dakini (Goddess)! I can also be easily identified as a Tantra Goddess, a Sacred Shamaness. I AM one who has reconnected to the power of the internal essence within me, the Divine Power - FEMININE ENERGY to transform and to awaken Souls to the Infinite Source of Oneness!
I am of great mysteries and I respond to the spiritual state within others. Love is my natural domain. I transform in to shapes with the expansion of the mind!
I am not a sex symbol but a symbol of Oneness! In the paradise of the Dakini (Goddess), there is total reflection. I only see what matters and disregards what doesn't! I assist you in the knowledge of yourself!
Only when one is ready for the ultimate change will I appear! All is ONE!
I am governed by the Law of ONE!
THE ONLY WAY OUT IS WITHIN
I AM THE MOTHER...
THE VIRGIN...
THE CRONE...
I AM THE CREATOR...
THE DESTROYER...
THE HEALER...
I AM THE TEACHER...
THE SEER...
THE ONE WHO WILL NURTURE...
I AM THE PROPHETTESS...
I AM THE ONE THAT WILL
LIGHT THE FIRE...
FOR I AM THE GODDESS...
I AM YOU!
I AM in constant pursuit of Being and Knowing Thyself as Divine SOUL.
I AM constantly thirsting and hungry for my total re-connection to my DIVINE SELF
I AM a lover & seeker of UNIVERSAL truth
I AM being the change the world needs to see.
I Am ready to Grow and Break all my limitations. Are You?
10. An Affirmation that you live by:
Attachments lead to expectations
Expectations lead to disappointment
Disappointment leads to Pain
Pain leads you back to yourself
Yourself leads you to your Spirit
Spirit leads you back HOME!
Home leads you back to yourSELF!
